Modernizing heritage-listed street lights – no conversion, no intervention.
For a German state capital, we developed a retrofit lamp that fully preserves existing lamps and ballasts – while delivering modern LED technology.
A pure lamp swap – without intervention in the existing infrastructure.
Challenge
The existing street lighting was heritage-listed.
Replacing the lamps was not possible, while the existing technology no longer met today's requirements for efficiency and maintenance.
Additionally, the infrastructure was technically complex: the existing electronic ballasts (ECG) were to continue being used to avoid installation effort and costs.
There was no solution on the market that could meet these requirements.
Solution
We developed a custom LED lamp precisely matched to the existing infrastructure.
The solution works directly with the existing ECGs and can be used without any conversion or modification of the lamps.
This means:
No intervention in the lamp. No change to the installation. No replacement of components.
A pure lamp swap – technically precisely matched to the existing system.
Validation
Before widespread deployment, the solution was tested under real conditions for one year.
The lamps were exposed to all weather conditions – from summer heat to winter conditions – and continuously monitored.
Only after successful validation was the solution approved for broad deployment.
Result
The existing lighting infrastructure was fully preserved.
At the same time, the system was converted to modern LED technology – without installation effort and without intervention in the substance.
The lamps are now deployed across the board, enabling an economical and sustainable modernization.
