Modernizing integrated office lighting – without intervention in the ceiling structure.
For the headquarters of a German automotive manufacturer, we developed a lamp that fully preserves existing lamps – despite regulatory restrictions and complex system integration.
Replacement was not possible – so the solution was integrated into the existing system.
Challenge
The existing office lighting was permanently integrated into the ceiling and could not be replaced without significant structural effort.
Replacing the lamps would have meant rebuilding the entire ceiling structure.
Additionally, the lamps in use were no longer available, as they had lost their CE approval due to the lamp ban and can no longer be used in the EU.
The particular challenge, however, lay in the integration of the lamps:
Central building functions are integrated into the existing lamps – including motion detectors, smoke detectors, daylight sensors, speakers and sprinkler components.
Replacing the lamps would therefore have affected not only the lighting, but several safety and building-related systems.
Solution
We designed a specially developed LED lamp that can be integrated precisely into the existing lamp.
The solution replaces only the lamp – not the lamp body.
All existing functions of the lamp are fully preserved, including the integrated sensors and building services.
The integration takes place without structural measures and without intervention in the ceiling structure.
This transforms a no longer permissible lighting solution back into a fully functional and compliant system.
Technical Approach
The developed lamp was precisely matched to the existing geometry and technical infrastructure.
It was ensured that the mechanical integration fits completely, the existing systems and sensors remain unaffected and all regulatory requirements are met.
Additionally, the light distribution was optimized to achieve better illumination while simultaneously reducing energy consumption.
Result
The existing lighting infrastructure was fully preserved – without any intervention in the architecture or building services.
At the same time, the system was converted to modern, energy-efficient LED technology.
The solution improves light quality and reduces energy consumption without causing additional installation costs.
